Agbomhere: Great Leaders Must Endure Challenges, Defends Akpabio

Blessing Agbomhere, the South-South Zonal Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has defended Senate President Godswill Akpabio against recent criticism on social media and among certain Nigerians, describing such attacks as a natural part of the price great leaders pay while serving their people.

Agbomhere argued that targeting Akpabio with unverified allegations was unfair and reflected a society where the “pull him down” mentality, often used by political adversaries, has unfortunately become commonplace.

He commended lawmakers in the Senate, particularly the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, for clearing Akpabio of the “unsubstantiated, malicious, and wicked allegations” leveled against him. Agbomhere praised the resolution, calling it a vindication for the Senate President, whom he described as a “father of all.”

In a statement he personally signed in Abuja on Thursday, Agbomhere praised Akpabio as a man of exceptional character, a devoted family man, and a dedicated public servant. He also warned that any further attempts to tarnish Akpabio’s reputation would be met with resistance from well-meaning Nigerians.

“With President Bola Tinubu recently signing the N54.99 trillion 2025 appropriation bill into law, Nigerians should be focused on ensuring the proper implementation of the budget through coordinated oversight by the Legislature, rather than seeking to discredit the nation’s legislative body,” Agbomhere said.

He also addressed the allegations against Akpabio, urging Nigerians to recognize that the claims were not about justice for women or inclusion, as some had suggested. Instead, he said, they were part of a “calculated plot” to remove Akpabio from office through underhanded means.

Agbomhere warned those trying to undermine the Senate President to remember that “what goes around comes around,” stressing that Nigeria’s leaders needed support, not attacks, particularly in such a critical period in the country’s history.
