Aiyedatiwa Names Adejuyigbe As UNIMED Vice-Chancellor
Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Ebuoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.
The governor made the announcement on Friday, stating that the appointment follows the recommendation of the Governing Council of the institution. Adejuyigbe, who is currently the Executive Director of the Central Office of Research at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and a Consultant Paediatrician at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, will assume the role after the submission of the Visitation Panel’s report.
The Vice-Chancellor position will become vacant with the expiration of Professor Adesegun Fatusi’s tenure on March 9, 2025.
In a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, it was highlighted that Adejuyigbe, a professor of Paediatrics from Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State, brings a wealth of experience to the position. She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine and has served as the former Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences at OAU. Additionally, she is the Vice-President of the African Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and the Co-Chair of the National Child Health Technical Working Committee.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also approved Professor Adolphus Odogun Loto, the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration and Clinical Services, as the Acting Vice-Chancellor until the new appointee assumes office.
Aiyedatiwa further constituted a Visitation Panel for the institution, which will be chaired by Professor Gbenga Olumekun, with Mr. Richard Adeyinka Arifalo serving as the secretary. Other panel members include Elder Idowu Benjamin, Mr. Olumide Ogidan, and Mr. Anthony Akala.
The panel is tasked with examining the university’s compliance with its statutes and approved programmes of study, reviewing the financial management of the institution—including subventions, grants, loans, and internally generated revenues—and assessing staff adequacy and development programs. The panel will also explore industrial relations between management, staff, and students, and provide recommendations for achieving lasting peace and harmony. Additionally, it will review the state of the university’s landed properties and assets, ensuring compliance with prior Visitation Panel recommendations, and suggest measures to reposition the university for optimal performance.
The panel has been given six weeks to submit its report.
