CDS Seeks Prayers, Unity For National Dev’t During Ramadan, Lent
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has called on Nigerians to unite in faith and pray for peace and national development during the holy periods of Ramadan and Lent. He emphasized that the strength of Nigeria lies in its diversity and urged citizens not to allow religious differences to divide the country.
General Musa made the call during the Ramadan Iftar organized for officers and soldiers serving at the Defence Headquarters on Thursday. He stressed the importance of Nigerians living together harmoniously, irrespective of religious backgrounds, stating that “anybody looking at us will not know who is a Christian or who is a Muslim.”
He further highlighted that God has a purpose for uniting Nigerians, which is not for destruction but for collective growth. “God Almighty is the one who has created us, who has brought us to this world, and who has put us as Nigerians,” Musa said. “We need to continue to walk together and love one another, as that is the only way we can make this country grow.”
The CDS acknowledged that there are individuals who may not wish well for the country, but assured the gathering that “God Almighty is with us, and He will never let us down.” He also noted that it was a divine ordination that the Muslim Ramadan and Christian Lent periods coincided, which he interpreted as part of God’s greater plan for the nation.
He urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country’s leadership, asking for divine guidance to make the right decisions for national progress. “Let’s continue to pray for our country so that our country will continue to grow and develop,” Musa added. He expressed confidence that despite the challenges posed by bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers, the nation would overcome these obstacles and continue to thrive.
The Imam of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Navy Captain Gidado Taofiq Migdad, also spoke at the event, emphasizing that fasting during Ramadan is a time for moral and spiritual awakening. He pointed out that fasting teaches self-restraint and serves as an opportunity for believers to reflect on their actions. He commended the Chief of Defence Staff for organizing the Iftar, which he said symbolized unity, camaraderie, and solidarity among the military personnel.
Navy Captain Migdad concluded by reinforcing that the gathering was a true reflection of the strength that comes from unity, love, and the shared blessings of the holy month.
