Governor Dauda Lawal has sworn in Yakubu Sani Haidara as the new Head of the Civil Service of Zamfara State, alongside 12 new permanent secretaries. The ceremony, marking the start of their tenure, took place on Thursday in the old chamber of the Government House in Gusau, the state capital.
A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, also mentioned the establishment of the Office Coordinator of Donor Activities and Programs, which will be under the Executive Governor’s office. The newly created office will be led by a Permanent Secretary who will report directly to the governor, coordinating all donor and development partner activities in conjunction with implementing MDAs.
In his address during the swearing-in, Governor Lawal praised the newly appointed Head of Service, describing him as a distinguished bureaucrat with over three decades of experience in public service. He emphasized that the new role would provide an opportunity to use Haidara’s extensive experience to improve the efficiency, productivity, and service delivery within the Zamfara civil service.
The governor also highlighted that Haidara’s appointment is part of ongoing public service reforms aimed at enhancing the state’s civil service. He tasked Haidara with supervising the Permanent Secretaries and ensuring the effective formulation and implementation of government policies and programs.
Governor Lawal further explained that the appointment of the Permanent Secretaries was a product of a rigorous, transparent process, including refresher courses, written exams, oral interviews, and ICT-based tests. He emphasized the state’s commitment to prioritizing merit and professionalism over favoritism in public service appointments.
He reminded the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries of their crucial roles in the successful implementation of the administration’s objectives. They were urged to align their actions with the governor’s six-point agenda and ensure that their policies and programs contribute to the broader goal of delivering good governance to the people of Zamfara State.
