Tinubu Mourns Renowned Writer Mabel Segun

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the family of the late Ms. Mabel Segun, a celebrated Nigerian writer, following her passing. In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu also commiserated with the literary community, friends, and fans of the renowned writer.

Ms. Segun passed away on Thursday, just a month after celebrating her 95th birthday. She was a poet, playwright, and writer of short stories and children’s books. Ms. Segun was a pioneer in children’s literature in Nigeria, founding the Children’s Literature Association of Nigeria in 1978 and establishing the Children’s Documentation and Research Centre in 1990 in Ibadan.

In his statement, President Tinubu mourned the late literary icon, highlighting her profound and lasting impact on Nigeria’s literary landscape over the years. He recalled Ms. Segun’s first book, My Father’s Daughter, which was published in 1965 and received global acclaim. The book remains a guiding resource for aspiring writers, literary enthusiasts, and students.

The President prayed for the repose of Ms. Segun’s soul and offered his condolences to her family, asking for divine comfort during this difficult time.
