JUST-IN: Gunmen Kill Miyetti Allah Chairman in Kwara
Unknown gunmen on Saturday night killed Alhaji Idris Abubakar, the Kwara State chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).
According to reports, Abubakar was shot at close range in front of his residence in Oke-Ose, a suburb of Ilorin, at around 10 p.m. Witnesses say the gunmen’s motives remain unclear at the time of filing this report.
Both the state government and the state police command have confirmed the tragic incident.
Muhammed Abdullahi, the Special Assistant to the Kwara State governor on Inter-community Relations (Fulani), confirmed the killing to LEADERSHIP on Sunday.
Similarly, Kwara State Police spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, issued a statement on Sunday confirming the murder. The statement reads: “The Kwara State Police Command confirms the murder of Alhaji Idris Abubakar, the chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kwara State, who was shot dead on March 8, 2025, at the entrance of his residence in Oke-Ose, Oke-Oyi (headquarters of Ilorin East local government area).”
In response to the incident, police detectives swiftly recovered five expended 7.62mm shells from the scene. Abubakar’s remains have been transferred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) Mortuary.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched a full investigation into the murder. Police Commissioner Victor Olaiya assured the public that those responsible for the killing would be brought to justice, urging residents to remain calm and provide any relevant information.
