Kwara to Register Residents and Issue Special ID Cards for Security

The Kwara State government has announced plans to register all residents within the state and issue them unique State Security Identification (SSID) numbers and cards.

Tajudeen Jimoh, the Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Residents Registration Agency (KWSRRA), made this known during an interview with LEADERSHIP in Ilorin, the state capital.

Jimoh explained that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had directed KWSRRA to carry out the registration process, stressing that the initiative would help enhance security and facilitate economic development through accurate data collection on all residents.

“The state government recognizes that ensuring the security of lives and properties, as well as planning for economic progress, depends largely on having precise data about every resident,” Jimoh said. “Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has therefore instructed us to register all residents and issue them with unique SSID cards.”

The registration is being carried out across 96 centres in the state, with plans to establish more centres as the process expands.

Jimoh also mentioned that the agency is collaborating with several state ministries, including Education, Human Capital Development, Tertiary Education, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Kwara State Social Investment Programmes, to mobilize citizens for the registration.

As part of the initiative, residents, including parents, guardians, and students, will be required to provide their SSID numbers when registering for various government services, including exams, scholarships, grants, and social safety programs. This will extend to students who wish to enroll in state-owned tertiary institutions.

“Going forward, students admitted to state-owned universities will also be required to register as residents of the state,” Jimoh added. “To access government services, people will need their unique SSID numbers. For example, children registering for exams like common entrance, JSS, and SSCE, will need to provide their SSID numbers, along with those of their parents or guardians.”

Recently, KWSRRA completed the registration of all government employees and pensioners to establish a reliable database of residents in the state.
