The Adamawa State Police Command successfully rescued two Catholic priests, Reverend Father Mathew David Dusami from Yola Diocese and Reverend Father Abraham Samman from Jalingo Diocese, who were abducted last month.
According to the police, the victims were freed unharmed, with no ransom paid by either the church or the families of the priests.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police for Adamawa State, CP Dankombo Morris, revealed that the rescue operation was meticulously planned and executed at a secluded hideout in Gwaida Malam village, a remote area linking Numan and Demsa Local Government Areas. The operation resulted in the safe return of the two priests.
Police also apprehended a suspect, 34-year-old Tahamado Jonathan Demian, a church member who was reportedly involved in the kidnapping.
During the operation, law enforcement recovered a locally made assault rifle, a SIM card, and a mobile phone from the criminals’ hideout.
The two priests are currently receiving medical care, and the suspect has been taken into custody for further questioning.
CP Morris assured the public of continued peace and security throughout Adamawa State and pledged to ensure the suspect is thoroughly prosecuted.
