Kano Appoints New Commissioner of Police
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Commissioner of Police (CP) Ibrahim Adamu Bakori as the new head of the Kano State Police Command.
Bakori, who is from Katsina State, succeeds CP Salman Garba Dogo, who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
The appointment was announced in a press release issued on Tuesday by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations for the PSC.
Prior to this new role, CP Bakori served as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Homicide at the Force Investigation Department (FID) in Abuja. His law enforcement career spans several high-profile positions, including Commander of the Bayelsa State Joint Task Force, Operation Doo Akpo, Assistant Commissioner in the Special Protection Unit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, and leadership roles in criminal investigation departments in Bayelsa and Rivers States. Bakori also served as Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police and as the Commanding Officer of the 17 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Akure, Ondo State.
DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), Chairman of the Commission, has tasked the new Commissioner to ensure peace in Kano State, urging him to settle into his role swiftly and tackle crime while safeguarding free movement and securing businesses. Argungu also emphasized the importance of mapping crime in the state to ensure targeted efforts in improving security. He assured Bakori of the Commission’s continued support in his new role.
The PSC’s approval has been sent to the Inspector General of Police for implementation through a letter signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
