JUST-IN: Court Stops Federal Gov’t From Taking Measures Against MultiChoice Over GOtv, DStv Prices’ Hike

The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order halting the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) from taking any further administrative action against MultiChoice Nigeria Limited concerning its recent price hikes for DStv and GOtv bouquets.

The injunction was granted on Wednesday following an ex parte motion filed by MultiChoice’s legal representative, Moyosore J. Onigbanjo (SAN), in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/379/2025.

This legal move comes after the FCCPC had summoned MultiChoice to provide clarification on its price increases. The Commission had instructed the company’s CEO to appear for an investigative hearing on February 27, 2025, regarding concerns over frequent price hikes, possible abuse of market dominance, and alleged anti-competitive behavior within Nigeria’s pay-TV sector.

Additionally, the FCCPC had warned that failure to justify the price hike or comply with fair market practices could lead to regulatory sanctions.

The court’s decision to grant the injunction effectively suspends any action by the FCCPC while the matter is being resolved.
