JUST-IN: Kidnapped 9 Surveyors Regain Freedom in Ondo
The nine surveyors who were kidnapped in the Akure North local government area of Ondo State have regained their freedom.
The surveyors were abducted by armed gunmen while on-site at Ilu-Abo on Tuesday last week. It was reported that they regained their freedom late last night.
LEADERSHIP recalls that women in Akure, the state capital, took to the streets on Tuesday to protest the abduction. Armed with placards bearing various messages, the women gathered at Ijemikin in Akure, at the residence of the Ejeminkin of Akure, High Chief Oluwole Omotayo, where they condemned the increasing rate of kidnappings in the state.
Pastor Ajibade Owolanke, a brother to the Ejeminkin of Akure, confirmed the release of the abducted surveyors. He stated that the surveyors were freed after the payment of a N20 million ransom and are currently in Akure. However, he declined to disclose their exact location.
The Ondo State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
