28 Suspected Thugs Arrested as Taskforce Enforces Ban on ‘Tashe’ in Kano
Security operatives in Kano have arrested 28 suspected thugs (Yan Daba) and seized weapons and illicit drugs during a coordinated operation aimed at maintaining peace throughout Ramadan.
A statement issued by the taskforce’s Public Relations Officer, Comrade Abdullahi Waiya, revealed that the operation, which took place between March 3 and 13, 2025, was carried out in collaboration with various security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Vigilante Group.
The operation led to the recovery of a range of dangerous items, including 283 parcels and 14 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa, a cutlass, three scissors, a pointed iron, two bottles of a toxic substance known as ‘suck and die,’ 13 packets of knockouts (bangers), and a rubber solution.
Waiya confirmed that the suspects have been charged and arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court at No. 12, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), where they will face prosecution.
In response to rising concerns about criminal activities, the taskforce reaffirmed the ban on “Tashe,” a traditional Ramadan performance that authorities claim has been used as a cover for hooliganism. Additionally, the use of knockouts (bangers) has been strictly prohibited, with offenders warned of legal consequences.
Hon. Ibrahim Kofar Mata, Chairman of the taskforce, commended the security personnel for their successful operation and called on residents to cooperate with authorities to maintain peace and stability in Kano State.
The public has also been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
