Natasha: Senate Passes Vote of Confidence on Akpabio

Just 48 hours after suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan addressed the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) in New York, the Nigerian Senate on Thursday overwhelmingly passed a vote of confidence on Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

At the IPU event, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had claimed that her suspension was in retaliation for raising an issue of sexual harassment against Senate President Akpabio.

In response, the Senate passed the vote of confidence, urging Nigerians to refrain from distracting the Senate with the sexual harassment allegations, as the matter is already under legal consideration. The Senate emphasized that, based on Order 40 of its standing rules, it cannot interfere with a case currently in court.

The motion to pass the vote of confidence was introduced by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central), and seconded by the Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Olalere Oyewumi (Osun West).

Details on further developments are expected later.
