Troops Eliminate 74 Terrorists, Arrest 130, Rescue 61 Hostages

Over the course of one week, Nigerian troops have successfully eliminated 74 terrorists, arrested 130 individuals, and rescued 61 hostages during various internal operations nationwide. This was confirmed by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in a statement issued by Major General Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations.

Maj.-Gen. Kangye also reported that, between February 5 and March 13, 2025, the troops apprehended 31 individuals suspected of oil theft, seizing stolen products valued at over N1 billion (N1,008,750,901.00).

Furthermore, the military made significant strides in arms recovery, securing a total of 71 weapons and 1,289 rounds of ammunition during this period. Among the weapons recovered were 32 AK47 rifles, 15 locally made firearms, 9 dane guns, 3 pump-action shotguns, 2 handmade pistols, and 10 other assorted weapons. In addition, 1,133 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 69 live cartridges were seized.

In the Niger Delta region, the troops uncovered and seized 675,266 litres of stolen crude oil, 312,593 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 4,500 litres of DPK. They also destroyed 51 crude oil cooking ovens, 49 dugout pits, 43 boats, 28 storage tanks, 131 drums, and 56 illegal refining sites.

Additional confiscated items included 4 pumping machines, 4 tricycles, 3 motorcycles, 7 mobile phones, and 8 vehicles.
