Remi Tinubu Named Grand Patron of African Women’s Volleyball Championship

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, has emphasized the importance of women in all sectors, stating that they have a space in every field and can occupy it through hard work and dedication. She made this remark during a visit by the management team of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) at the State House in Abuja.

The visit, led by Comptroller General of the NCS, Wale Adeniyi, was to honor Mrs. Tinubu as the Grand Patron for the 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Championship, scheduled for April this year.

According to a statement from her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady expressed her gratitude for the recognition and highlighted Nigeria’s prominence in the sports world, particularly due to the relentless efforts of female athletes. She encouraged these athletes to serve as mentors and role models for young Nigerian women, sharing their stories of both success and humble beginnings to inspire the next generation.

“I can see that out of the 4 DCGs here, 3 of you are women. And that tells me you have worked, worked, worked, and worked. For you to be at the top, you must have worked hard. When you have been given a platform, it is not just about you. Go on and lift others, encourage them,” she said.

Senator Tinubu, who is gaining recognition as a strong advocate for women in sports, expressed her commitment to her new role as the Grand Patron for the 2025 African Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, which will be hosted by Nigeria, with the Customs Service proudly representing the nation.

In his remarks, Comptroller General Adeniyi praised her ongoing support for female athletes in Nigeria. He noted, “When a woman puts her hand to the plough, the earth itself will respond to her. All your initiatives and generosity are unparalleled and this is a great source of inspiration to us all.”
