Rivers SSG Cautions Against Mistaking Fubara’s Calm Approach for Weakness
The Secretary to the Government of Rivers State (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has warned that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s calm and composed approach to governance should not be misconstrued as weakness.
Danagogo’s statement comes amid growing criticism from some of the Governor’s opponents, particularly from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Critics have targeted Danagogo’s role in Fubara’s administration, particularly his decision to sign a letter inviting lawmakers for a meeting with the Governor, which Wike described as “useless.”
In a conversation with journalists during the commissioning of Okrika Grammar School in Okrika, Dr. Danagogo defended the letter, stating that there was nothing inappropriate about it. He clarified that such correspondence was well within his official duties and did not constitute an overstep of his position.
Danagogo, a lawyer from the Kalabari region who had also served as SSG during Wike’s second tenure, explained that he had performed similar tasks in the previous administration without issue. He emphasized that his comments were not politically motivated but rather a necessary response to address the misrepresentation of his actions.
The SSG commended Governor Fubara for maintaining restraint in the face of provocation, citing the recent incident where the state assembly complex was locked, preventing him from presenting the state budget. Danagogo noted that while some previous governors might have taken drastic actions in such a scenario, Fubara chose to remain calm and preserve order.
He further assured the people of Rivers State that the state government remains dedicated to their welfare and economic prosperity. Danagogo explained that Fubara’s refusal to escalate tensions stemmed from his desire to avoid policies that would harm the citizens and instead prioritize their well-being.
