Tears Flow as Ex-Kaduna Deputy Governor’s Son is Laid to Rest

Mourners gathered in Kamrum, Zango Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State, on Friday to bid farewell to the late George Stephen Shekari, the son of a former deputy governor of the state, who passed away at the age of 52.

George Stephen Shekari was the firstborn of the late Stephen Shekari, who served as Kaduna State’s deputy governor.

During the funeral service at ECWA Church Kamrum, former Governor Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, in a condolence message read on his behalf by former Minister of Aviation and former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mr. Felix Hassan Hyat, remembered the deceased as a brilliant individual whose life was tragically cut short when his contributions were most needed. Makarfi offered comfort, encouraging the family to take solace in the belief that George now rests peacefully with Jesus.

Rijo Shekari, a cousin of the deceased and Senior Legislative Aide in the office of the Deputy President of the Senate, expressed heartfelt thanks on behalf of the family to all who stood by them during their grief. He stressed the importance of continued prayers and support for the deceased’s wife and children, urging the church and community to uphold them in faith and solidarity.

The service was marked by a poignant sermon delivered by Rev. Solomon Guruza Ubasi, titled “Longing for the Home of Righteousness.” Drawing from Job 19:25-27, Rev. Guruza reminded the congregation of the ultimate hope for believers—eternal life with God. He described the “home of righteousness” as a place of peace, joy, and reunion with the Lord, urging all to live with an eternal perspective.

“This world is not our final home,” the cleric said. “Though we face trials, we must keep our eyes on eternity, just as Job did.”

Addressing the grieving family, Rev. Guruza offered comforting words, reassuring them that for the righteous, death is merely a transition to a glorious eternity with God, not an end.

The funeral service was filled with moving tributes from family and friends, reflecting on George Stephen Shekari’s life and legacy. As his body was laid to rest, Rev. Guruza’s message echoed in the hearts of all present—a powerful reminder that, in Christ, farewell is never truly final.
