Gov. Mbah Commends DSS for Arresting 5 High-Profile Kidnappers in Enugu

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for the successful arrest of five suspected high-profile kidnappers operating in the forests of the state.

The governor’s commendation followed a briefing on the details of the operation and in recognition of the covert nature of the DSS’s efforts.

A security source told LEADERSHIP that, acting on reliable intelligence, DSS operatives tracked the suspects to their hideouts in two separate locations within Enugu State on Wednesday.

“The suspects are believed to be part of a gang that has been terrorizing Udi Local Government Area (LGA) and other parts of the state,” the source revealed.

Following their arrest, the suspected kidnappers admitted to extorting large sums of money as ransom from victims’ families.

Additionally, three other suspects, believed to be key members of another kidnap gang, were arrested on Friday in the state capital.

A DSS source confirmed the arrests, stating that among the items seized during the operation were significant sums of money — proceeds from the criminals’ illicit activities — as well as deadly weapons and other dangerous items.

In the meantime, the DSS, in collaboration with the military, police, other security agencies, and the state-owned Forest Guards, has implemented measures to continue the crackdown on other gang members on the run, including raids on their hideouts and camps in the forests.
