Aiyedatiwa Urges NPC to Focus on Data-Driven Census
Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has pledged his administration’s full support to the National Population Commission (NPC) in carrying out its mandate, underscoring the critical importance of accurate population data for effective governance and sustainable development.
The Governor made this commitment on Monday during a courtesy visit by the management of the Ondo State chapter of the NPC, led by the newly inaugurated Federal Commissioner, Mrs. Olukemi Iyantan, at the Governor’s Office in Akure.
Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that effective governance hinges on serving the people, and for any government to plan successfully, reliable demographic data is essential. He pointed out that the state relies heavily on the NPC’s efforts to generate accurate population statistics, which are crucial for shaping policies, infrastructure development, healthcare, and other vital services.
He said, “The work of the National Population Commission is indispensable. As a government, we depend on this initiative, and we will support you within the resources available. We need comprehensive data on population distribution in terms of age, location, and other demographic factors to properly structure our policies and budget allocations.”
The governor also called on the NPC to ensure that the data collection process is thorough and accurate, as it will form the foundation for making strategic developmental decisions in the state.
