BREAKING: Rivers Assembly Accuses Governor Fubara and Deputy of Alleged Gross Misconduct
The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially served a notice of alleged misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, as tensions rise between the executive and the legislature over the presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
This move comes in the wake of the ongoing dispute over the implementation of a Supreme Court judgment that requires the governor to re-present the budget to the Assembly. LEADERSHIP recalls that the Assembly has denied receiving any letter from Governor Fubara regarding the budget presentation, despite his claims.
In a letter dated March 13, 2025, addressed to Speaker Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, Governor Fubara expressed his intention to present the budget on March 19, 2025, or any other day within the month after being locked out of the Assembly last week. However, the Assembly has disputed the authenticity of this claim.
House Committee Chairman on Information, Hon. Enemi Alabo George, accused Fubara of deliberately frustrating the implementation of the Supreme Court’s judgment regarding the political crisis in the state, particularly the directive for him to re-present the budget to the majority lawmakers.
LEADERSHIP reports that George has challenged the governor to produce an acknowledged copy of the letter he claimed to have sent to the House, emphasizing the Assembly’s insistence on transparency and due process in handling the matter.
