Rivers Police Deny Arson Attack on Wike’s Residence

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media that suspected arsonists attacked the private residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt.

Social media posts had claimed that a riot broke out in the state capital, resulting in the burning of Wike’s residence and vehicles within the compound.

In a statement issued on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Grace Iringe-Koko described the reports as “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to incite unrest and spread fear among law-abiding residents.”

The police emphasized that no such incident had occurred and reassured the public that normalcy prevails throughout the state.

“The general public is urged to disregard these unfounded claims, which are clearly intended to cause panic and destabilize the relative peace and security enjoyed by the good people of Rivers State,” the statement read.

The police also issued a stern warning to those responsible for spreading false information, cautioning against actions that could incite public disorder. They stressed that anyone found guilty of spreading such misinformation would face the full consequences of the law.

“The Rivers State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. We urge members of the public to rely on credible sources for information and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies,” the PPRO added, urging citizens to stay calm and continue their activities without fear.
