Hours After Suspending 3 Commissioners, Gov. Nwifuru Dismisses 2 Aides
Just a day after suspending three commissioners for absenteeism, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has dismissed two more aides for gross misconduct.
The aides dismissed include Mr. Nnannna Nwangele, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Airport Security, and Mr. Felix Okemini, the Senior Special Assistant on Security for Ebonyi North.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government, Prof. Grace Umezurike, and made available to LEADERSHIP, the sacked aides were directed to return all government properties in their possession to the Secretary to the State Government by 4 pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. The statement also ordered that the dismissed officials must avoid being seen around the Government House or participating in any government-related activities.
Reacting to the dismissals, Comrade Chukwuemeka Iteshi, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, praised Governor Nwifuru for taking decisive action to ensure that political office holders adhere to the rules and responsibilities of their positions.
“We have long been calling on the governor to take full charge of his administration and ensure that those entrusted with public duties perform their tasks. It is highly unacceptable when government officials flout directives with impunity,” Iteshi commented.
He continued, “Just recently, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) suggested a reshuffling of the cabinet due to the inactivity of several commissioners and aides, which has negatively impacted governance. The governor’s actions in suspending and dismissing these individuals should motivate those still in office to take their duties seriously.”
Iteshi also highlighted the state of Abakaliki, which was once one of the cleanest cities in the South-East but is now plagued with refuse piles. “I commend the governor for taking this bold step,” he concluded.
