NANS Backs Seyi Tinubu’s Youth Empowerment Efforts, Slams Bauchi Governor’s Son

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has come to the defense of Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, regarding his youth empowerment initiatives, while rebuking Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed, son of Bauchi State Governor, for his criticism.

In response to Shamsudeen’s comments, NANS’ Senate President, Usman Nagwaza, condemned what he described as an attempt to shift governmental responsibilities to private citizens. Nagwaza questioned how a beneficiary of his father’s political position could lecture on youth empowerment when the administration he is affiliated with had not made significant strides in that area.

“It is both amusing and infuriating to witness a man who enjoys the privileges of his father’s gubernatorial office pontificate on youth empowerment while his own lineage has spectacularly failed in that regard,” Nagwaza stated. “Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed should be mortified by his audacity in seeking to deflect responsibility from an administration his father leads.”

Nagwaza further challenged the Bauchi State government to present evidence of its efforts in job creation, ICT development, and business incubation for the youth. He argued that it was unfair to place the responsibility of solving unemployment on Seyi Tinubu, a private citizen, while an elected government avoids its duties.

“To demand that Seyi Tinubu, who holds no executive powers, should miraculously solve the unemployment crisis of a state with a fully constituted government is nothing but a theatrical display of abdication of duty,” Nagwaza said. “This attempt to shift responsibility to an individual outside the corridors of power reeks of either willful ignorance or calculated mischief.”

Nagwaza praised Seyi Tinubu’s philanthropic efforts across Nigeria, emphasizing that his charitable contributions should be applauded rather than criticized. He urged Tinubu to continue his work supporting the youth, despite what he called “the bitter wailings of naysayers.”

He also reminded government officials that leadership comes with responsibility and should not be offloaded onto private individuals. “Those in power should focus on their own duties before pointing fingers,” Nagwaza concluded.
