Tinubu Swears In Ibas as Sole Administrator of Rivers State
President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
The swearing-in ceremony took place after a brief meeting with the president on Wednesday afternoon at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This move follows President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, citing a prolonged political crisis that has disrupted governance and threatened security in the region.
As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the state’s House of Assembly for an initial period of six months. In their place, the president appointed Vice Admiral Ibas to oversee governance in the state, with the understanding that he will not enact new laws.
President Tinubu further stressed that the judiciary in Rivers State would continue to operate independently during this period.
