Governor Okpebholo Distances Himself from South-South Governors’ Stance on Emergency Rule in Rivers
In an unexpected development, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has publicly distanced himself from the position of other governors in the South-South region, who are opposed to the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Okpebholo clarified that he was neither consulted nor informed by his colleagues regarding their stance against the presidential declaration.
A statement issued on Thursday by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okpebholo, emphasized that while the governor respects the right of his fellow South-South governors to express their views, he dissociates himself from any statement that opposes the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.
The statement further noted, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, fully understands the challenges at hand.”
Governor Okpebholo expressed his support for the actions taken by President Tinubu, stating that these measures are aimed at fostering lasting peace and solutions for both Rivers State and the broader South-South region.
