JUST-IN: Senate In Closed-door Session Over Emergency Rule In Rivers
The Nigerian Senate has entered into a closed-door session to discuss President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, which includes the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly.
The closed session followed the reading of a letter from President Tinubu requesting the Senate’s ratification of the emergency declaration during Thursday’s plenary.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele then moved a motion for a closed session, citing Order 135 of the Senate Rules, and the motion was seconded by Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro.
The Senate is currently in executive session as of press time.
Further details will be provided later.
