Oyo State Government Increases Entry Grade Level for University Graduate Nurses
The Oyo State Civil Service Commission has officially raised the entry grade level for university graduate nurses within the state civil service.
Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, Provost of the Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences in Ibadan, announced this decision during a meeting with 21 nursing tutors, whose grade levels were elevated from GL08 to GL10.
Owolabi urged the nursing tutors to approach their roles with diligence, emphasizing the importance of integrity and high-quality service delivery.
This move follows a resolution by the National Council of Establishment (NCE) during its 43rd meeting in 2022, which endorsed the elevation of university graduate nurses to grade level 10.
The provost explained, “Our institution is committed to producing skilled nursing and health professionals capable of making significant contributions across various healthcare settings, including community, primary, secondary, tertiary, and industrial health sectors. I encourage you all to embrace this vision, knowing that the current administration will ensure your rights are upheld.”
Owolabi also noted that the Oyo State government prioritizes integrity and excellence, revealing that the institution had received the necessary accreditations from relevant regulatory bodies for several of its courses.
She expressed her gratitude to Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for approving the promotion of the 21 nursing tutors, stating that such an initiative should inspire a renewed commitment to public service.
In response, Mrs. Abiola Elizabeth, one of the nursing tutors, expressed her appreciation, recognizing the civil service approval as a further testament to the state government’s dedication to strengthening the health sector.
