Security Forces Free 84 Hostages, Eliminate 3 Terrorists in Katsina
In a bold military operation, security forces successfully rescued 84 hostages and killed three terrorists in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Dr. Nasir Mua’zu, the state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, made the announcement in a statement, revealing that the operation was carried out by the 17 Brigade troops in partnership with the Air Component of Operation Forest Sanity.
The operation aimed at dismantling a notorious terrorist hideout led by Sanusi Dutsin-Ma in the Pauwa Highlands, which has been a hotspot for criminal activity.
According to the commissioner, the operation commenced at around 0900 hours, with a series of airstrikes targeting key locations. Ground forces then advanced, engaging the terrorists in Malori and Matalawa villages, forcing them deeper into the hills.
By 15:09, the forces reached the stronghold of Sanusi Dutsin-Ma. A fierce firefight ensued until approximately 16:30 hours, resulting in the death of three terrorists, while several others were believed to have fled with injuries.
In the aftermath, the security forces freed 84 captives, including seven men, 23 women, and 54 children, who had been held by the terrorists. The troops also seized camouflage uniforms and other suspicious items from the site.
The rescued individuals were immediately provided with food and then handed over to local authorities for further care and to be reunited with their families.
“This operation showcases our unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security throughout Katsina State,” said Mua’zu in the statement. “The safe return of these civilians, particularly the children, reflects our dedication to justice and the protection of the innocent.”
The commissioner also reiterated the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s strong support for security agencies in their ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements and safeguard the lives of residents across the state.
