UK Passport Fees Set to Increase From April 10, 2025

The UK Government has announced upcoming changes to passport application fees, set to take effect from April 10, 2025. These adjustments, which are still pending parliamentary approval, will raise the costs for both online and paper applications for adults and children.

The changes, which apply to both domestic and overseas passport applications, were detailed by the UK Home Office. From April 10, the fee for a standard online application within the UK will increase for both adults and children.

  • Adult online application: From £88.50 to £94.50
  • Child online application: From £57.50 to £61.50

Postal applications will also see higher fees:

  • Adult postal application: From £100 to £107
  • Child postal application: From £69 to £74

The Premium Service, which allows for passport issuance within one day, will become more expensive as well:

  • Adult Premium Service: From £207.50 to £222
  • Child Premium Service: From £176.50 to £189

For applicants abroad, fees will also rise. For standard online applications, the cost for adults will increase from £101 to £108, while the child fee will go up from £65.50 to £70.

For paper applications made outside the UK:

  • Adult paper application: From £112.50 to £120.50
  • Child paper application: From £77 to £82.50

The fee increases are part of an ongoing effort to make the passport system financially self-sufficient, reducing its dependence on general tax funding. The Home Office emphasized that the UK government does not profit from these fees, and they are necessary to maintain the passport service’s operations and ensure its financial viability.

“These fees contribute to the cost of processing passport applications, consular support overseas—including assistance with lost or stolen passports—and managing UK border services,” the Home Office explained.

In 2024, 99.7% of standard passport applications from within the UK were processed within three weeks, as long as no additional information was required. The Home Office advises customers to apply well in advance of their travel plans to avoid any delays.

The fee adjustments are in line with reviews conducted by HM Treasury, which regularly assesses passport fees.
