Gov Yusuf Directs Political Appointees in Kano to Declare Assets
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has issued a directive requiring all political appointees in the state to declare their assets with the National Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to ensure full compliance with legal obligations.
This directive was communicated in a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, during an Iftar gathering at the Government House. The gathering included heads of government agencies and special advisers.
Governor Yusuf revealed that the CCB’s Kano office reported that 60 to 70 percent of the state’s appointees had not yet completed their asset declaration. He urged them to rectify this omission immediately to avoid any legal repercussions.
“They appealed to me to direct you to do so to avoid the consequences of non-declaration of assets, which is enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution,” he stated.
In addition to asset declaration, the Governor expressed concern about the inactivity of some special advisers, noting that many had failed to offer any counsel throughout the past year.
“It is far better for an Adviser to send me dozens of memos than to remain silent for over a year without offering any advice on governance matters,” Governor Yusuf emphasized, encouraging them to become more proactive and engaged in governance.
As a gesture of appreciation for their commitment, the Governor allocated 13 Hajj seats to the heads of government agencies.
Dr. Rahila Mukhtar, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (KCHIMA), spoke on behalf of the appointees, thanking the Governor for his support and pledging continued dedication to the administration’s vision.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, also reminded the officials of their oath of office, reinforcing their responsibilities in serving the state.
