Akpabio Denies Sharing Money to Senators for State of Emergency Approval
Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, has strongly refuted rumors that he shared dollars with fellow Senators before the approval of the State of Emergency imposed on Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.
The Senate President’s denial came through a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, on Saturday.
Eyiboh clarified that a circulating story, attributed to a press release supposedly issued by him, which mentioned money being shared during an Iftar hosted by Senator Akpabio, was completely false.
He explained that while a newspaper correspondent did contact him to confirm or deny the rumor of money being distributed at the Iftar, he made it clear that there was no such event. “It is true that I confirmed the Iftar meeting and further asserted that the Distinguished Senate President has always hosted his colleagues of both religious faith in every season of spiritual rebirth,” Eyiboh said.
He went on to emphasize that no money, in any currency, was shared during the meeting, and he denied the rumors vehemently. “There has never existed any reason to share any money in such a solemn meeting,” Eyiboh added.
Eyiboh also accused those spreading the rumor of being part of a blackmail campaign fueled by malice and hate.
