Gov. Okpebholo Delighted as Work on Edo’s First Flyover Bridge Reaches Advanced Stage

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed his excitement over the rapid progress of the first flyover bridge being constructed at Ramat Park in Benin City, the state capital. The project, which is expected to be completed within 18 months, is a key initiative of Governor Okpebholo’s administration, having been launched just one week after he assumed office in November 2024.

During an unscheduled visit to the construction site, the contractor in charge of the project, Mr. Andy Duan of CCECC, informed the governor that 20 percent of the work had already been completed. Duan explained that since construction began in December 2024, the company has successfully completed seven pillars and underground cross beams, with other aspects of the project still underway. He assured the public that the construction would adhere to all specifications.

Governor Okpebholo, visibly pleased with the progress, emphasized his commitment to overseeing the quality of infrastructure projects across the state. He assured the people of Edo that his administration is focused on delivering high-standard projects and promised to revoke contracts from contractors failing to meet the required standards.

“We are not resting. We are continuously monitoring all ongoing projects to ensure they meet the specifications,” the governor stated. “For the Ramat Park flyover, the contractor is doing well, and I am impressed with the speed at which work has progressed so far. If this momentum continues, I am confident the project will be completed on time. The materials used, like the iron and others, meet the highest standards.”

He further reiterated that his administration intends to leave behind a legacy of quality infrastructure for the people of Edo State. “We will continue to inspect and monitor every project to ensure that contractors deliver on their promises,” he affirmed.

The governor also expressed dissatisfaction with one contractor’s performance on a different project, stating that the company’s work had not met expectations. “We are not happy with one of the contractors, and we will discuss the issue with him on Monday. If the situation does not improve, we may have to take drastic action,” he added.

John Obanor, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, who accompanied the governor on the inspection, confirmed that the flyover project was on track. He acknowledged that while the work might not be fully appreciated yet due to its early stage, it would soon be recognized as the project progresses.

In addition to the flyover, Governor Okpebholo also inspected several other ongoing road projects, including the Uteh Temboga road, the open drainage at Upper Ekenhua Road opposite the Nigerian Army cantonment, Upper Ekenhua Road, and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal road in Ugbiyoko.
