Ibas Urges Contractor to Complete Rivers Assembly Building on Schedule

Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has urged the contractor handling the State Assembly Complex project to accelerate work and ensure timely delivery as agreed. Ibas emphasized that one of his key responsibilities is to restore full and effective legislative operations in the state.

The administrator made the call on Saturday during an inspection of the State House of Assembly building project, situated along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, the state capital. He was accompanied by Dr. George Nwaeke, the Head of the State Civil Service, and was shown around the site by Engr. Omaka Oko, General Manager of Monier Construction Company (MCC).

Ibas explained that in his brief time since assuming office, he had identified a critical gap in the state’s governance structure, particularly the absence of a functional legislature. He stressed his commitment to ensuring the building is ready within six months for legislative activities to resume effectively.

“I have worked in the Executive arm of the state government, and one of the key missing pillars right now is the legislature. For them to function effectively, they need a place to work from. I am not yet certain that work is progressing as expected, and I want to ensure that by the end of six months, the facility will be ready for use,” he said.

The administrator added that the contractor has a schedule and set timelines to follow, which he expects them to honor. “The state has provided the necessary funds, and I’ve been briefed on that. Now, the responsibility lies with the contractor to adhere to the terms and complete the project on time,” Ibas emphasized.

He further noted that his appointment was primarily to maintain law and order, enabling the state to return to its intended path of progress and governance.
