Federal Government Orders Investigation Into Kogi Prison Break

The Federal Government has ordered an immediate probe into the recent jailbreak at the Koton Karfe Custodial Centre in Kogi State.

In a statement issued by his media adviser, Babatunde Alao, on Monday in Abuja, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, condemned the incident, calling it “unfortunate.”

Dr. Tunji-Ojo reassured the public that measures would be taken to track down and recapture all escaped inmates, utilizing the service’s advanced biometrics and available technological tools.

The Minister also instructed the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, to visit the Kogi facility, evaluate the situation, and conduct a comprehensive audit to determine the cause of the breach.

“We are fully on top of the situation. Our teams are already on the ground in Kogi, and I have ordered a detailed audit to get to the bottom of what happened,” he said.

The jailbreak, which occurred on Monday, saw at least 12 inmates escape, and reports indicate that a custodial officer is currently missing.
