Fubara Denies Links To Militants, Bemoans Fake Reports Of Pipeline Bombings In Rivers

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has vehemently denied any association with militant groups that are allegedly threatening the federal government in connection with the ongoing political crisis in the state.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara expressed concerns over the attempts to falsely link him to militant activities and bombings of oil and gas facilities. He categorically dismissed claims of such attacks, pointing out that affected local communities had already debunked the reports as unfounded.

“Virtually all the fake videos have been linked to alleged militant groups in the state, with the creators of such content trying very hard to connect them to supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” the statement read. It further noted that communities where these supposed incidents were said to have occurred had reassured authorities that no such events took place. The statement emphasized that critical government assets in these areas remain safe and secure.

Fubara strongly denied any affiliations with militant groups, reiterating his commitment to ensuring peace and stability in both Rivers State and the larger Niger Delta region. “For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal group or elements, anywhere in the State or Niger Delta, to undertake any action inimical to the peace of the people or safety and security of oil and gas facilities, and by extension, the economy of the country,” the statement clarified.

He stressed that governance and development could only thrive in a peaceful environment. “The Governor had repeatedly made it clear at every public event that the peace of the State is paramount to him, and that he would pay any price to secure and sustain peace in the State,” the statement continued.

Fubara also warned against any attacks on government infrastructure and urged those using his name to instigate violence to desist immediately. “Governor Fubara vehemently warns purveyors of violence and economic sabotage to steer clear of the state, and avoid any attempt to use his name or capitalize on the present political crisis to foment trouble in the State,” the statement said.

The Governor also took aim at bloggers and social media influencers who he accused of spreading misinformation that could escalate tensions. He called for an end to their campaign of creating chaos, pointing out that these misleading reports have already led to “wrong decisions” that would not help the state move forward.

Finally, Fubara urged security agencies to take immediate action against those circulating misleading videos designed to tarnish the state’s image. “Security agencies should take note of these fake videos designed to misinform the people, and further paint the State in bad light, and take every necessary step to contain them, and bring those behind them to book,” he concluded.

This statement reflects Fubara’s ongoing commitment to peace, urging all involved in spreading false information to desist in order to prevent further instability in Rivers State.
