Osun Crisis: Adeleke Visits Warring Communities, Assures Of Solutions
Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has assured residents that measures have been put in place to facilitate lasting peace between the warring communities of Ilobu, Ifon-Osun, and Erin-Osun.
The governor made the assurance on Monday during a visit to the affected communities and a spot assessment of the 24-hour curfew that was imposed to restore peace to the areas.
Adeleke expressed satisfaction with the calm in the three communities, noting that security forces had effectively carried out their responsibilities. He also emphasized that anyone found guilty of causing harm or destruction to lives and properties would be held accountable.
“I am pleased to see that the security agencies have been able to restore calm. The curfew has been very effective, and we are seeing improvements,” Adeleke said. “I want to thank all the security agencies for their swift response. They immediately took charge, and I am happy to say the situation is under control.”
The governor acknowledged the long-standing nature of the crisis but reiterated his commitment to resolving it. “When I took office, I urged the communities to avoid fighting over land, as this would hamper development. It’s time for the fighting to stop, and for peace to take hold,” Adeleke added.
He also emphasized that action would be taken against those responsible for the violence, stating, “I have given directives for all culprits to be brought to justice. This violence must stop; we will not tolerate this anymore.”
In a related development, the Osun State Police Command reported the arrest of three suspects found with a dane gun, in violation of the curfew. Police spokesperson, SP Akeem Adeoye, assured that thorough investigations would be conducted and those involved would face prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Osun, CP Mohammed Umar Abba, has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to ensure peace and order. The police confirmed that the resurgence of violence between Ifon and Ilobu towns, which resulted in murders and destruction, had spread to Erin-Osun. The police, along with other security agencies, are working diligently to prevent further bloodshed.
Adeoye added, “The Command will continue to monitor the situation closely and take strict measures to deal with troublemakers and their sponsors. We are determined to enforce the curfew and maintain law and order in the affected areas.”
