Ramadan: Wike Distributes 10,000 Bags Of Rice To Muslims In Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has distributed 10,000 bags of rice to Muslims in the Gwagwalada area council of Abuja, marking the spirit of Ramadan. Wike, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Chidi Amadi, during the distribution, emphasized the deep religious significance of Ramadan, describing it as a unique and special season for Muslims.

In his speech, the minister highlighted that Ramadan is not only a time for fasting and prayer but also a time for almsgiving, an aspect of the season that he felt was important to focus on. He explained, “It is a time when we need to identify with the needy in our society, the less privileged, those who truly need some form of assistance.”

Wike expressed that the 10,000 bags of rice would go a long way in assisting many during the season. He urged religious leaders and community associations to ensure the items were distributed properly to those who are truly in need, especially among the disadvantaged in society.

“I want to urge our religious leaders and associations, that as these items are made available to you, please ensure they are well distributed. As we distribute these items today, we urge you to try as much as possible to identify our brothers, sisters, and young ones amongst you who truly are in need,” he added.

The minister also called on corporate bodies and non-governmental organizations to join in the spirit of Ramadan by reaching out to religious organizations and identifying areas where they can contribute to helping those in need.

During the distribution event, Imam Lawal Mustapha, Chief Imam of the FCT Minister’s Residence, expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries. He described Wike’s gesture as one that demonstrates kindness and understanding toward the community. “In our religion, our God has given us the order that kindness deserves kindness. Obviously, in our view, our response is to include the Minister in our deep prayers and express our respect for the good he has done for us,” Imam Mustapha said.

The Chief Imam also prayed for Wike’s well-being, asking for God’s protection and success in all his future endeavors.

The Principal of the School for the Deaf, AbdulRazzaq Surajo, also expressed his appreciation for the minister’s generosity. “The Minister is turning things around in Abuja and touching lives. God will be with him, granting him good health, long life, and prosperity. This government will continue to provide a sense of direction to move the FCT and Nigeria to greater heights,” Surajo said.

The gesture by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory underscores the importance of compassion and solidarity with the less privileged during the holy month of Ramadan. Many expressed their hopes for a blessed Salah celebration, filled with happiness and gratitude.
