Sule Lamido Criticizes Seyi Tinubu’s Ramadan Food Distribution in the North, Calls It an Insult
Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa State, has strongly criticized the recent Ramadan food distribution initiative led by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu. Lamido described the initiative as an affront to the rich heritage of Northern Nigeria.
In a video that has since gone viral, Lamido is seen addressing members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during an Iftar gathering in his hometown of Bamaina, in Birni Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State. While speaking, he condemned Seyi Tinubu’s actions, especially the distribution of cooked rice in cities like Sokoto and Kano. Lamido called it “a disgrace” to the North and its proud history, saying, “It is an insult to Arewa (Northern Nigeria) and to our founding fathers.”
He further stressed that the North, with its deep cultural and historical roots, should not be reduced to a mere recipient of charity. “Arewa, with its rich culture and proud heritage, deserves more than this. We have heroes like Aminu Kano, Sardauna, Tafawa Balewa, Joseph Tarka, and many others whose legacies represent the greatness of our region. We must uphold their values and take pride in our own strength,” Lamido said.
Seyi Tinubu’s Ramadan outreach, which involved distributing food packages across several northern states, including Kano, Sokoto, Niger, Kaduna, Adamawa, Yobe, and Bauchi, has sparked a variety of responses. While some groups in the North have praised the initiative as a necessary support for vulnerable communities during Ramadan, others view it as a political maneuver.
