Atiku Accuses National Assembly Leadership Under Akpabio of Corruption

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has criticized the leadership of the National Assembly under Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing them of corruption.

Atiku made the remarks during an interview on the TV show Untold Stories With Adesua, where he also discussed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

When asked about the National Assembly’s ratification of Tinubu’s proclamation, Atiku responded, “I wasn’t surprised. I know the leadership is corrupt, and I make no apologies about it. They are capable of anything, and the Senate President has a history of such behavior, even from his time as governor.”

The former vice president, who is a prominent opposition leader, went on to accuse Akpabio of misconduct that went beyond financial corruption. “Not only was he corrupt as a governor, but he also had a pattern of mistreating women,” Atiku asserted.

On the possibility of forming a coalition to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 general elections, Atiku reflected on the 2014 opposition merger, which helped bring President Muhammadu Buhari into office in 2015.

“We had a similar merger in 2014. There were three or four of us who ran for president, and when one of us won, we all rallied behind them, and they succeeded,” he recalled.

Although Atiku did not confirm whether he intended to run for president again, he stressed the urgent need for experienced and trustworthy leadership in Nigeria. “I’ve never seen Nigeria in such desperate need of an experienced and credible leader as we do now,” he concluded.
