Group Urges Sheikhs Al-Ilory and Onikijipa to End Social Media Dispute

The National Coordinator of the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG), Alh Abdullahi Ibrahim, has called on two prominent Islamic scholars of Ilorin descent—Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Al-Ilory and the Mufti of Ilorin, Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq Onikijipa—to cease their social media feud.

Ibrahim emphasized that the issue between the two scholars could be resolved peacefully without resorting to public accusations and counter-accusations on social media platforms.

The MMWG leader expressed embarrassment at the ongoing public dispute between the two clerics, urging them to consider the negative impact their actions could have on public peace, particularly in Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large.

Ibrahim also referenced a verse from the Holy Qur’an (Chapter 2, verse 44), which cautions religious leaders against hypocrisy—”calling people to what is right while failing to uphold righteousness themselves.” He warned that such behavior could be seen as a sign of disbelief in the Almighty Allah.

Ibrahim expressed particular concern over the timing of the dispute, noting that the clash between the clerics during the holy month of Ramadan was especially troubling, as this period is meant for reflection, forgiveness, and spiritual growth.
