Ilorin Elite Group Mediates Peace Between Feuding Islamic Scholars Al-Ilory and Onikijipa

The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) successfully mediated peace between two prominent Islamic scholars, Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Al-Ilory and Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq Onikijipa, on Tuesday.

Al-Ilory is the proprietor (Mudeerul) of the Markaz School of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Agege, Lagos, while Onikijipa serves as the Grand Mufti of the Ilorin Emirate. Both scholars, who hail from Ilorin in Kwara State, have been embroiled in a public feud.

The conflict escalated recently on social media, with Al-Ilory accusing Onikijipa of being responsible for his health issues during his Ramadan Tafseer session. In response, Onikijipa denied the allegations and swore an oath on the Holy Qur’an to clear his name.

In an effort to resolve the dispute, IEDPU, the umbrella body for all socio-cultural organizations in Ilorin Emirate, intervened by holding separate meetings with the two scholars in Lagos on Tuesday.

Sources told LEADERSHIP that IEDPU’s national president, Alh. AbdulMalik AbdulMumini, led the delegation, which aimed to facilitate an amicable resolution between the two respected figures.

Alh. Nurudeen Ibrahim, the national publicity secretary of IEDPU, confirmed the meetings and reported that both scholars expressed their commitment to peace following the discussions.

Ibrahim stated, “The scholars assured us of their dedication to maintaining peace and harmony. They also reiterated their respect for the Emir of Ilorin, Alh. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and pledged to work towards upholding unity in the community.”
