Recall: Natasha In Senate, An Error We’re Set To Correct, Petitioners Insist

Constituents from Kogi Central have unanimously expressed their support for the ongoing recall process of the suspended Senator representing the district, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. They stated that no amount of propaganda or falsehood could derail the recall effort, affirming that her presence in the Senate was a mistake they are determined to correct.

Over 10,000 constituents from the five local government areas in Kogi Central, under the banner of Kogi Central Grassroots Movement, issued a statement on Wednesday. The statement was signed by the group’s Coordinator, AbdulHameed Jimoh, and Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi.

The constituents accused the Senator’s camp of fabricating videos and distorting information regarding the recall, but reiterated that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had overstayed her welcome in the Senate. They urged Nigerians to disregard social media claims and visit Kogi Central to witness firsthand that the Senator is no longer supported by her constituents.

“She (Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan) has falsely claimed that the state government is behind her recall when in reality, even her once-loyal supporters in Kogi Central have abandoned her,” the statement said. “She came to the National Assembly to pursue personal interests, not the interests of Kogi Central.”

The constituents further accused the Senator of turning herself into a laughing stock in the international community with allegations against the Senate President and attempting to mislead the world by suggesting that her suspension was related to sexual harassment claims.

They also criticized the Senator for attempting to manipulate public opinion by sending items to people in Okene, allegedly to rally support for her cause. “She imported people from outside the district to join her small group of aides, calling them Kogi Central constituents,” they said.

The Kogi Central indigenes maintained that the recall process was necessary to prevent further damage to the district’s reputation, caused by what they described as the Senator’s “unruly behavior” since the conflict with the Senate began.

“No reasonable constituents will fold their arms while their district is dragged through the mud. The recall process is a deliberate effort to show the world that the people of Kogi Central do not support her actions,” the statement added.

The constituents further rejected claims that those who participated in the recall process were tricked with promises of empowerment or cash payments. “The electorate in Kogi Central are too sophisticated to be deceived,” they concluded.

They also urged the media to verify the claims being made by the Senator’s supporters, emphasizing the need for objective reporting on the issue. “We reject the insults and false narratives that those who signed the recall register were coerced or deceived,” the statement affirmed.
