Soun Expresses Concern Over Armed Robbery, Violent Herdsmen In Ogbomoso

The Soun of Ogbomoso in Oyo State, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, has voiced his concerns about the increasing incidents of armed robbery and the destructive activities of violent herdsmen in some parts of Ogbomoso.

The monarch made this call during a courtesy visit from the new Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola, at his palace. He urged the Commissioner to intensify efforts in tackling the growing security challenges in Ogbomoso. Oba Olaoye appreciated the CP for making Ogbomoso his first point of call after assuming office, noting that the visit was not only an official duty but also a symbol of the CP’s commitment to securing lives and properties in the region.

While acknowledging the work of previous commissioners and the professionalism of the Area Commander in Ogbomoso, the Soun highlighted the escalating security concerns, particularly in areas like Pakiotan, where over 30 homes were recently attacked by armed robbers. He also raised concerns about the increasing destruction of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen and the rising criminal activities of local gangs (area boys) at night.

“These challenges pose serious threats to the peace and prosperity of our people. Our farmers are suffering, and residents live in fear of armed robbery and street crimes. We need a more robust security strategy to address these issues,” said Oba Olaoye.

In response, CP Adenola assured the monarch of his commitment to improving security in the area. He revealed plans to hold quarterly security meetings to assess and address emerging threats and pledged full support for the Area Commander to enhance law enforcement operations in the region.

However, the Soun emphasized that securing the community is not solely the responsibility of the police but a collective effort that requires the active participation of everyone. He called on residents to support security agencies, remain vigilant, and contribute to crime prevention efforts.
