PPA: Avoid Focusing On Money, Tinubu’s Aide Charges Corps Members, IT Students
The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, has advised students on Industrial Attachment and Corps members to avoid focusing on money when seeking placement for their industrial attachment or mandatory one-year national service.
Ajayi emphasized that while selecting their place of primary assignment (PPA) for IT or NYSC, the main consideration should be a place that offers the best opportunities in their chosen field and future career aspirations, rather than monetary compensation.
Taking to his Facebook page on Thursday evening, the Presidential Media Aide wrote: “I have offered this advice to many young people in higher institutions seeking to do internship and NYSC over and over. I want to state it again for the benefit of those seeking placements for Industrial Attachment and places of primary assignment during the mandatory youth service.”
“Money should never be your consideration when you are seeking a placement for your industrial attachment and NYSC.”
Ajayi shared an anecdote from last week, where he observed how a young man who had just finished his NYSC impressed a panel of interviewers at a major oil company. The young man’s hands-on experience during his six-month industrial attachment and his recent NYSC service were critical to his success.
“The interview session was so deep and technical for almost two hours that I wondered if the panelists forgot they were interviewing a boy who just got out of NYSC barely a month ago. The kind of technical oil and gas industry questions they were asking him would have been perfect for someone with 10-15 years industry experience,” Ajayi added.
He advised young people to focus on gaining relevant experience and skills during their industrial attachment and NYSC, which will serve them better in the long run than prioritizing immediate financial rewards.
