Barau Calls for Swift Action Against Killers of Northern Travellers in Edo, Appeals for Calm

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has strongly condemned the recent killings of Northern travellers in Uromi, Esan North-East local government area of Edo State. He has urged security agencies to immediately take action against the perpetrators.

A mob had intercepted the victims, mostly Hausa hunters, who were on their way to Kano for the Sallah celebrations. The attackers ransacked their vehicle before brutally murdering them.

Senator Barau described the killings as barbaric, inhumane, and devilish. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ismail Mudashir, on Friday evening, the Deputy Senate President called on the Edo State Police Command and other security agencies to take decisive steps to bring those responsible for the killings to justice.

“I have been receiving numerous calls from my constituents and concerned Nigerians regarding the horrific murder of innocent individuals in Edo State,” Senator Barau said. “I condemn, in the strongest terms, the barbaric killing of these innocent Nigerians. I appeal to the security agencies to act swiftly and arrest the perpetrators, ensuring they are punished for these heinous crimes.”

He also urged all Nigerians to maintain peace and unity, emphasizing the importance of embracing one another despite the country’s diversity.

“Nigeria is a diverse nation, and we must learn to live together as brothers and sisters to promote progress and development,” he added.

Senator Barau extended his condolences to the families of the victims, offering prayers for the repose of their souls. He reassured them that justice would be served and urged them to remain calm as the government works to bring the culprits to justice.
