Dangote Foundation Supports 40,000 Borno Families with Rice Donation for Ramadan
The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched a major food intervention aimed at supporting 40,000 families in Borno State, with a donation of 40,000 bags of 10kg rice. This gesture is part of the Foundation’s ongoing effort to alleviate the economic hardship faced by vulnerable communities in the state.
The initiative was officially flagged off by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Wednesday. The governor, who was represented by the Director-General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Ali Abdullahi Isa, commended the Foundation for its timely support, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
“The donation of these 40,000 bags of rice will go a long way in easing the economic burdens of families in Borno State,” the governor said. “This marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to alleviate suffering, and we deeply appreciate the Aliko Dangote Foundation for its generosity and commitment to the welfare of the people.”
The donation is part of the larger Aliko Dangote Foundation’s nationwide food intervention program, which began with the distribution of one million bags of rice, worth N16 billion, across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria.
Mr. Usman Muhammad, a representative of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, emphasized that the donation targets the poor and vulnerable populations in the state. “This effort is aimed at supporting the government’s ongoing initiatives to improve living conditions, particularly for those who are struggling,” Muhammad said.
One of the beneficiaries, Aisha Modu, 50, a displaced person, expressed gratitude for the assistance. “This rice will greatly help in reducing the hardships I face as a displaced person,” she said. Another beneficiary, Umaru Aliyu, 60, shared his gratitude, noting that the rice would help him feed his six children during the Ramadan period.
The donation underscores the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s dedication to promoting social welfare and improving the livelihoods of vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
