Kaduna SDP Refutes El-Rufai’s Alleged Membership and Rejects Leadership Reshuffle

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has publicly rejected any affiliation with former Governor Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, stating that there is no record of his membership within the party.

At a press conference held on Friday in Kaduna, the Assistant National Secretary for SDP in the North-West, Idris Inuwa, clarified that el-Rufai, despite circulating rumors, is not officially a member of the party. He urged the former governor to follow the appropriate procedures if he wishes to join.

“It has come to our attention that certain individuals, including Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, have been rumored to have joined the SDP. However, neither the Chairman of the Kaduna North Local Government Chapter nor the leadership of Unguwar Sarki ward has any record of their memberships,” Inuwa explained.

He further emphasized that el-Rufai and others in similar rumors are not recognized members of the Kaduna State SDP. “We advise him and anyone else interested to follow the correct steps to officially become members of our party,” he added.

Inuwa also addressed another issue, rejecting a letter from the National Secretariat regarding the dissolution of the State Working Committee, calling it invalid due to the lack of proper documentation. “The letter, dated February 25, 2025, has no reference number, no tracking identity, and did not follow the correct mailing procedure,” he said.

He firmly rejected the suggestion of dissolving the elected State Executive Committee, affirming that the current leadership was democratically chosen and holds a four-year mandate.

“The attempt to dissolve the leadership is not only unconstitutional but also undermines internal democracy within the party,” Inuwa concluded, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the letter. He warned of potential legal action should the issue remain unresolved.
