Nwosu Will Be Remembered for His Commitment to a Democratic Nigeria — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has honored the late Professor Humphrey Nwosu, the former chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission (NEC), highlighting his commitment to Nigeria’s democracy.

Tinubu made this statement during the funeral service of the late professor at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Ajalli, in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday. The President was represented at the ceremony by the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi.

In his tribute, Tinubu described Prof. Nwosu as a statesman whose contributions left a lasting impact on the nation. He commended the late professor for his dedication to democratic values and urged all those who admired his ideals to embrace the values of industry, integrity, patriotism, and democratic support that defined his public service.

In a statement released by Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, President Tinubu expressed his condolences to Prof. Nwosu’s family, the people of Anambra State, and the broader Nigerian populace.

“As we mourn the death of Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, we are reminded to celebrate his profound accomplishments and his contributions as a public administrator, political scientist, and academic icon,” Tinubu said. “His commitment to a democratic Nigeria and his ideals will be cherished beyond our generation.”

Furthermore, the President assured Nigerians of his administration’s unwavering dedication to revolutionizing key sectors of the economy, with the aim of stimulating growth and fostering national development. He expressed confidence that despite the challenges, the economy is now on a path to sustainable growth and Nigeria’s democracy continues to deepen for the benefit of all.

“May I assure Nigerians that the fragile economy we inherited is now alive and on a path of sustainable growth. We have overcome the worst. Our democracy is growing, and my administration will continue to expand the democratic benefits for the good of all Nigerians,” he added.

In his remarks, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, praised Prof. Nwosu for his instrumental role in Nigeria’s electoral history, particularly for introducing the Option A4 voting system and the Open Ballot system, which led to one of the freest and fairest general elections in Nigeria’s history. Soludo called on Nwosu’s family, community, and associates to continue upholding the values that defined his life and work.
