Breaking News: Eid al-Fitr to be Celebrated on Sunday as New Moon is Sighted in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has officially confirmed the sighting of the new moon, signaling the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal.

With this confirmation, the Eid al-Fitr celebration will take place on Sunday, marking the first day of Shawwal.

The moon sighting was publicly reported via the Haramain Sharifain X platform. This event marks the conclusion of a month-long period of fasting and devotion for Muslims around the world, with Eid al-Fitr being celebrated through prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.

Approximately 10 observatories participated in the moon sighting across Saudi Arabia, as per Haramain Info, the official social media account of the country’s religious authority.

Prior to the official announcement, there was some uncertainty regarding the date of Eid. Experts in Saudi Arabia were divided on the expected sighting of the Shawwal crescent. While five recognized astronomical experts forecasted Sunday as the likely date for Eid, four others predicted that it would be observed on Monday.

It’s important to note that Ramadan began on March 1 in most parts of the world, following the sighting of the new moon.
