PDP Zonal Secretary: Tinubu’s Mega Rally Will Not Disrupt Bayelsa’s Peace

George Turnah, the South-South Zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has reassured that the upcoming mega rally in support of President Bola Tinubu and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, set to take place in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, will not disturb the peace of the state.

Turnah, in a statement released by his media assistant, Kelvin Loveday, on Friday, addressed concerns from government officials about the rally, emphasizing that its purpose was not to create any unrest in Bayelsa. He also defended his association with Wike, stressing that Nigerians have the constitutional right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly.

He further reassured the Ijaw people of his loyalty and commitment as an Ijaw man, stating that his political group, The New Associates, was focused solely on garnering support for President Tinubu’s administration in the South-South region, with no hidden agendas. The official launch of The New Associates is set for April 12, 2025, in Bayelsa, and Turnah confirmed that all necessary preparations, including notifications to relevant security agencies, were in place to ensure a smooth event.

Turnah expressed disappointment over the politicization of the rally, reaffirming that ethnicity should not play a role in political activities. He also questioned why there was any objection to his position as the PDP Zonal Secretary, noting that the role was meant for someone from Bayelsa or the Ijaw community, and he was fully qualified for it.

Clarifying his political affiliations, Turnah reiterated that he was not only a member of the PDP but also its serving Zonal Secretary in the South-South zone, dismissing any rumors about him holding other offices.

He praised Governor Douye Diri for his accomplishments and reiterated his unwavering support for the Prosperity administration under Diri’s leadership.

In closing, Turnah called on youths, women, political leaders across party lines, and all supporters of President Tinubu to come out in large numbers to show their gratitude for the President and FCT Minister, acknowledging their efforts in securing significant appointments for Bayelsans in the Renewed Hope administration.
